Your iPhone may be experiencing performance issues for several reasons, including running outdated software or 3rd party apps not working properly.
If your iPhone is running slowly there are a few ways to speed it up.
Are you running the latest updates to iOS?
Apple regularly releases performance and security updates, as well as new features.
- From the main screen, tap the "Settings" icon.
- Tap "General".
- Tap "Software Update".
Your phone will check for updated software and either prompt you to install it, or show you a message that your software is up to date.
Reboot your iPhone
- iPhone models without a HOME button: Press and hold the POWER and VOLUME DOWN keys simultaneously for 10–15 seconds, or until the device turns off completely.
iPhone models with a Home button: Press and hold the POWER and HOME keys simultaneously for 10–15 seconds, or until the device turns off completely. - Wait 30 seconds, then press and hold the POWER key again for 5 seconds or until the device turns back on. Swipe right to unlock the screen.
Do you notice your iPhone slow down after using a specific app?
Check the App Store for updates for that app.
- Tap the "App Store" icon.
- Tap the "Account" icon.
- Tap "Update All."
Force the application to close when you are done using it.
- iPhone models without a HOME button:
- First, return to the Home screen.
- To display your recent apps, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause before releasing the screen. Your recent apps will be displayed.
- If necessary, locate the app you would like to close. The, swipe the app to close it.
- iPhone models with a Home button:
- First, return to the Home screen.
- Press the HOME key twice to display your recent apps.
- Swipe the app up to close the app.
If you continue to encounter performance issues, reset your phone to factory settings.
- From the main screen, tap the "Settings" icon.
- Tap "General."
- Tap "Transfer or Reset iPhone."
- Tap "Get Started," to backup your phone and follow the prompts.
- Tap "Erase All Content and Settings," and follow the prompts on your device.
- Note: If you don't see the option for "Backup then Erase" or "Erase All Content and Settings," then we recommend you manually back up your device before tapping "Erase."
