Can I use my iPhone with a hearing aid?

Your iPhone can be used automatically with a M3/T4 compatible hearing aid device. In addition, if you have a "Made for iPhone" (MFI) hearing aid device, you can pair that device with your phone over Bluetooth for additional features. Those features include:


  • Changing the volume for your hearing aid(s)
  • Verifying the battery life of your hearing aid(s)
  • Connecting audio from your iPhone to your hearing aid(s)
  • Switching between hearing aid presets to accommodate different situations
  • Enabling your iPhone microphone to transmit directly to your hearing aid(s), even when you're not on a call


To pair your MFI hearing aid, follow these steps:


  1. Verify that "Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone.
    • Note: to enable Bluetooth from the main screen, select the "Settings" icon. Select "Bluetooth" and, if necessary, tap the slider to turn Bluetooth "On."
  2. Open the battery doors on your hearing aid.
  3. On your iPhone, tap the "Settings" icon.
  4. Locate and tap "Accessibility." Then, locate and tap "Hearing Devices."
  5. Your iPhone will automatically begin searching for hearing devices. Close the battery doors on your hearing aid.
  6. Tap your hearing aid from the list of devices. When the pairing request is displayed on your screen, select "Pair."
    • Note: If you have two hearing aids, you will receive two pairing requests.



To reconnect your hearing aid(s) after disconnecting or powering off, open and close the battery compartment doors. Your hearing aid(s) will reconnect automatically.


To pair your hearing aid(s) to another iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, verify that all of your devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and are signed into iCloud using the same Apple ID. Then, follow the steps above.
