What is Screen Time? How do I set it up?

Screen Time is the iOS 13 tool that allows you to limit the amount of time spent on iPhones and iPads, as well as block access to certain apps or activities for a set amount of time. It's a great way to see how much time is spent interacting with your phone, and how that time is being spent. You'll receive a weekly report via Screen Time, and a breakdown of how that time was spent: using apps, visiting websites, or playing games. Screen Time also allows you to set limits and view reports regarding your child's iPhone or iPad, and has the added benefit of letting you restrict content, downloads, and purchases with a parental passcode.

To enable Screen Time from the main screen, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the "Settings" icon.
  2. Locate and tap "Screen Time."
  3. Tap "Turn On Screen Time."
  4. Tap "Continue."
  5. Tap the desired option.
  6. Tap the "Start" field and enter the desired start time.
  7. Tap the "End" field and enter the desired end time.
  8. Tap "Set Downtime."
  9. If necessary, tap the desired option. Tap "Set."
    • Note: To display additional options, tap "Show All Categories." Then, tap the desired options.
  10. Adjust the screen time amount as needed, then tap "Set App Limit."
  11. Tap "Continue."
  12. If enabling Screen Time on your child's iPhone, you will be prompted to set a parental passcode. Enter the desired passcode, then re-enter the passcode to confirm.
  13. To disable Screen Time, tap "Turn Off Screen Time."
    • Note: If prompted, enter your parental passcode.
  14. Tap "Turn Off Screen Time" to confirm.
